GleanUI Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-10-29

GleanUI is a browser extension that extracts the design system of the web page you choose to capture.

What the extension reads

When you click Capture (or press the shortcut), GleanUI reads the current tab's DOM, computed styles, stylesheets, fonts, images and takes screenshots of that page. It only does this for the tab you captured, when you ask it to. It does not run on pages in the background and does not read other tabs.

Where data is stored

Captures (the extracted design spec, screenshots and optional raw data) are stored locally in your browser profile's IndexedDB. Settings are stored in chrome.storage.local. A Pro license key, if you add one, is stored in chrome.storage.sync so it follows your browser profile. API keys you add for AI providers are stored in chrome.storage.local only and are never synced or sent anywhere except directly to the provider you chose.

What leaves your browser, and when

What we never collect

Page content, screenshots or captures are never uploaded unless you explicitly send or share them. No analytics are collected unless you turn on "Send anonymous usage statistics" in Settings, which then reports only event counts.

Permissions

activeTab, scripting: read and screenshot the tab you capture. tabs: find and reuse open AI tabs and read tab titles for your library. storage, unlimitedStorage: keep your library. downloads: save exports. clipboardWrite: copy. contextMenus, sidePanel: UI. Host permissions for the AI sites: insert the prompt there. Optional "all sites" access: only if you grant it, to fetch cross-origin stylesheets in Deep mode.
